I snorted tea out of my nose I was laughing so hard. And you know what "claymates"? [another giggle] -- I bet if Clay Aiken saw this, he's be laughing too. Because it's funny. And k.d. lang would also be laughing, and both k.d. lang and clay aiken's families are laughing with them. Do you know why "Separated At Birth" has been a running pictorial gag for so long? -- because it's FUNNY! Bravo Manolo, you have again achieved the super fantastic.

Areyoukidding, I have no idea where kd is now, wish I did. Now seriously, have you ever listened to her sing? She can out-power-ballad Clay with half her vocal cords.
But anyway, I just had a great idea - wouldn't it be great for them to do a duet?

And I agree, stop dissing Clay, it show no class.

I'm still laughing. The Aiken defenders must be the 1980s early 90s defenders of Michael Jackson's greatness and their children.

crap ISP

host of others and I certainly do not spend my time or money on them. What I don't understand is why non-fans give a crap. Clay's just a decent guy, earning a living. But there are so many people on the internet who seem to thrive on ridiculing and bashing him. Maybe my school of thought, "live and let live" is antiquated. Sad statement of our society really.

Another thought about the AI machine.......Chris Daughtry, Taylor Hicks, Katherine McPhee, are all AI products. Are bloggers all over the internet bashing and ridiculing them as well?

Clay seems to draw an unusual amount of attention from non-fans who, for some reason, feel he "deserves" the ridicule slung his way.

I'm glad I have others things to do in my day other than ridicule, bash and discredit a celebrity that means nothing to me.

danilo, you may be surprised that I agree with some of your points. However, I became a Clay Aiken fan after American Idol. My daughter wanted to attend a concert. Since so many of today's performer are beyond vulgar and inappropriate, I thought a Clay Aiken show would be a good first concert experience for her. I liked him. So sue me.

I'm not trying to rationalize why anyone one should support Clay. I think each person has their own internal tuning fork. I certainly don't expect any one to like him simply because I do.

Contrary to your claim, I am a very rational and objective person. What I don't get is why so many people enjoy bashing and ridiculing him. I do not care for the music of Brittney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z and a host of

1. The appeal of any singer to his/her audience is an EMOTIONAL one, so trying to RATIONALIZE to a non-fan why your idol deserves support is clearly not going to work.

2. Aiken is open to ridicule because he is a product of American Idol. The whole show is set up to manipulate the emotions of its audience – you don’t just support your idol by enjoying his/her singing, you have to be active and pay to vote, or else you risk having your candidate lose. Ask yourself: Is the competitive format and the promotion of heated rivalry more effective at spurring better performances out of the contestants, or are those things even more effective at manipulating the audience to vote and spend? What is the show’s real aim?

By the time a winner is declared, his/her debut CD is already guaranteed sales not just because of the publicity, but more so because a diehard fanbase has already been molded into being the market that’s going to spend money for that CD.

That is why no idol winner’s career has ever gone supernova. It’s very difficult to expand the fanbase, because the rest of the potential audience is not subject to the manipulation of the show.

3. If you’re on the internet trying to rationalize why Clay Aiken is fabulous, then you probably haven’t figured out 1 and 2 above for yourself, and there’s a good chance you’ve fallen for the manipulation described in 2. This would argue for rational thought not being your strong suit, so even if you believe he must be defended rationally, you wouldn’t necessarily be the one capable of managing the job.

Until this thread, I had not known of this phenomenon of Clay Aiken’s internet posse. The whole thing is absurd from top to bottom.

Bewildered, I'm happy to explain: Clay Aiken's chubby. You may now resume your normal comment wordcount quota at LiveJournal or TMZ. Your overlords will be proud of you.
