Dolly Parton, more classy than trashy
By Spirit FingersGiven the depressing state of celebrity news over the past few days, we must turn to the always effervescent Dolly Parton to lighten the mood:
Country legend DOLLY PARTON refuses to conform to contemporary fashion trends – because she’s happiest when dressed like “a whore”. The 9 To 5 star – who has admitted having extensive cosmetic surgery – believes her trashy image is the secret to her successful career. The 62-year-old says, “People know I have no taste, no style, no class. If I have any class it’s all low. A cartoon character is how I see myself and it’s worked for me for 40 years. “Even after I got enough money where I could afford to dress properly, what kind of fun would that be? Hell, they know I look like a whore. No matter how much I spend or how I dress, I’m still gonna look cheap.”
This coming from someone who remembers to put on underwear and not leave it hanging out the back of her dress, keeps her bosomly charms safely reined in, abstains from wearing ripped or stained clothing and is selective about the quality of her wigs. You ain’t fooling us one bit, you sassy classy lady.

Dolly can do no wrong.

I love the Dolly! But the guy behind her has a stomach ache….

Cheap? I’m the same height as Dolly, and as I look at that dress and see how it’s beautifully fitted at the shoulder and at the wrist – always custom alterations for us petites – I have to giggle at her (usual) self-deprecation. (Also amazing – the fit of the dress in the waist, through the pleats, and – let’s be honest – around the bazongas.) And isn’t it refreshing that she’s not like other actresses who go on about how Audrey/Jackie/whoever inspired her, when it was all put together by a stylist?

Didn’t she say, “It costs a whole lotta money to look this cheap” or something similar?
I adore Dolly.
And I know exactly to whom you are contrasting her… bleh. No comparison indeed.

I love Dolly! She is the real deal. Such an amazing songwriter and a beautiful public personality.

I’ve adored Dolly since I was four. Up to the time I was seven, I wanted to look like her too – the clothes I mean. Now I just love her for her unique, beautiful voice and wonderful songs. Dolly is a class act all the way.

She is so interesting. Despite her ‘plastic’ exterior, she seems like such a real, genuine and honest person and someone who would be a good friend. She seems like a sweetheart. (That outfit is pretty fugly though).

Dolly is definitely someone I’d like to have lunch with. She is a funny, intelligent, no nonsense, hard working and modest gal who has a unique sense of style and doesn’t have to follow the crowd or have the crowd follow her. fashion-wise. In short, the very best sort of company there is. Bravo Dolly! As Tim Gunn might say, you make it work!

I love her for her warmth, self-deprecating wit, good humor, talent and quirky style! I hope she never changes, she’s a breath of fresh air.

I mean, you couldn’t pay me to wear that dress, but, hey, it’s Dolly, she has a crazy-consistent personal style, and her clothes are beautifully fitted (are there no tailors in LA???). She makes it work for her somehow. And she does seem like a great person to have lunch with, or watch movies and eat carbohydrates on a “girls night in”, which is the most important thing.

Her musical legacy was secure decades ago. She’s the real thing and one of the greats – right up ther with Iggy Pop, Maria Callas and Judy Garland.

Meg Q, I’d pay anybody if I could wear that dress! What’s her waistline? 17 inches?

Her cover of Stairway to Heaven is amazing, and no, I’m not joking.
I read a really fascinating interview with her in the book Starstruck by Michael Joseph Gross. She is quite a philosopher who has no illusions about what she does for a living and exactly what the world wants from her. She’s both down-to-earth and truly profound.

Dolly has more class in one bright-red fingernail than most starlets have in their entire body. She’s an absolute delight, a phenomenal songwriter and singer (I’ll never forgive Whitney Houston for destroying Dolly’s bittersweet, wistful, poignant “I Will Always Love You”), and a true lady.
Viva Dolly!

Dolly is an American success story and God Bless her for it. She has worked very hard to improve from her humble beginnings . Dolly comes across as a warm, loving and active Christian through her many charities that she donates both her time & money. She has an amusement park and a cowgirl/boy horse performance arena nearby in the Tn. Smoky Mtns. and employs a lot of people, which in turn, pay taxes. She doesn’t take herself too seriously by her demonstrating jokes against herself; one has to be very ” secure ” in their own goodness to do that type of humor. She empitomises what it is to be a practicing ” Christian ” !
