Oh god, Big Night nearly killed me when I first saw it. We went prowling around for a good Italian place, but all we could find were Olive Gardens–until we happened on this teeny place in a strip mall and proceeded to eat ourselves into a stupor.

Babette’s Feast is one of the great unknown films of all time. A theatre near me used to play it once a year in a double bill with Room With a View, and you’d better believe there wasn’t a better date night in town.
