I think he's as cute as can be and seems like a super nice guy. He's got an "aw shucks" All-American appeal.

Aww...I think Michael Phelps is cute. Look at that grin!

Besides, pretty is nice to look at, but it doesn't win you medals.

Ladies! Are we such animals that we must constantly objectify men in the way that they objectify us so degradingly? And by "us," I don't mean those of us commenting on this blog. I mean superstar women who have the advantages of personal trainers and stylists and makeup artists and Photoshop. And by "men," I suppose I mean Phelps and Nadal and let it just be said that all other considerations aside, I must put in the good word for tennis players, what with their proportionate bodies (am I the only one who's noticed that swimmers have unusually long torsos?) and chest hair.

But all that aside... I'm sorry. Where was I?

Cover the boy's ears and lower jaw and he's pretty. It took a while for me to notice his face (stereotypical woman--only after his body) Anywhoddle. This pic had to be made BEFORE the end of the Olympics since it was on line 2 minutes after he won the 8th medal and only 33.4 seconds for the Sports Illustrated cover to appear. Anyone thinking pre Olympic photo ops? Are those real medals or stage props? Striking while the iron's hot (or a serious case of pre-planning!)

But the rest of him's pretty enough. The medals are covering up the decorative parts!

Not if the athlete's ugly. Dude's a great swimmer, but honestly, he's ugly as sin.
