In the very early 80’s I had a black taffeta “tuxedo” almost identical to Rihanna’s, except my sleeves were not quite so exaggeratedly pouffy, and I had a skirt instead of matching pants. I was so excited to be able to wear that to my prom! But I want you to know I’m brought down to earth by the fact that I, too, had a matching bow tie.
That’s what all this reminds me of: Prom Night. In a circle of Hell Dante could never have foreseen, the 80’s redux.
