Britney’s Rigging Links

Britney's pink panties

So she’s wearing underwear you can see through her dress, that hideous orange-red lipstick I already blogged about, and Uggs. Trying to look on the bright side: thank GOD she is wearing underwear.

Hump Day Links: The Gladiator Look Will Never Die Edition

Jake Gyllenhaal Prince of Persia Poster

And defy the fashion history of the last three years.

Normally, I’d say the Gladiator look is completely finito (and not a moment too soon), but for some reason I just can’t place I’m rather inclined to let this particular iteration go. No, wait; I’ve reconsidered. It must all come off right! now!

EuroTelevision

This? Is a thing of beauty and a joy forever, and I don’t care if it cost Jean-Paul Gaultier the gig at Dior as he claims, it was worth it! What is it (besides insane)? It’s the intro to Eurotrash, his show for British tv. For this, I’d get cable.

In this episode, Jean-Paul and Antoine de Caunes, his attractive cohost, explain that they are in fact French government agents sent to destabilize British minds. And five bucks says they can do it, too!

Word of the Day: “Refained”

The Queen Attends The State Opening Of Parliament

Well, I don’t glove this look. One thinks, one does, that if one were Queen one would certainly have a Silver Nose Trowel In Waiting or somesuch servant to do one’s digging for one. One would certainly not go rooting for nose goblins with one’s kid gloves on, because it stains and it makes one’s nanny cry. Although since she was on her way to welcome in the new government, perhaps she was just preparing a nasty surprise for David Cameron?

“Refained”:

Excessively refined and genteel: cultured coll.: since ca. 1920. Ex a ‘refained’ pron. of refined.

From the inability of certain persons to pronounce words correctly, due to their fake and ostentatiously upper-crust accents. Or perhaps the habit of leaving one’s kid gloves on while picking one’s proboscis?

Trivia fact: I once dropped a man I was dating, a very nice one, for a number of reasons but foremost among them that he attempted to pick his nose with his ski gloves on, and then attempted to shake my hand. At least I got third prize in a bad date contest for that!

Sex and the City and the Periodic Table

Did Sarah Jessica Parker Struggle With Valentino Dress?

It’s odd that Secretariat would have chosen such an unambiguously unsympathetic synthetic shade of yellow, but perhaps she wanted to keep the cameras off her home turf advantage, despite the scented methane billow.
